There is a talk this Thursday, 5th March, at South Tyneside College, starting at 1815 (NOTE NOT 1830, our usual start time). The topic is ' Insurance Claims, Trends and Causes' by Tony Baker of North of England P & I Club. This is a joint paper lecture with the Naval Architects and Marine Engineers.
On the following Thursday, 12th March, we have organised a particularly interesting talk to be given by Dr Dennis Wheeler: 'Sailors Ships and Storms: How old naval documents enable us to understand climate change.' This is to be held onboard HMS CALLIOPE in Gateshead and will involve the Tyne Division RNR and the URNU as well as a large number, I hope, of our own members. The lecture starts at the usual time of 1830.
Early Warning - The North East Branch is to host the International Nautical Institute AGM this year on 11th/12th June here in Newcastle at Trinity House. We are relying on a good number of our Branch members to join in. There is a dinner at Trinity House on the evening of 11th June, but places will be limited, so hurry while stocks last.
More on this later.
